BIO
Statement
I have been an artist for a number of years, working in Argentina, England, Scotland, and now Canada. Since moving to Canada in 2012, I have been influenced by the interaction between people and their surroundings in the Okanagan, and in British Columbia more generally.
I am interested in the role that art can play in fostering communication and engagement, and in the connection between the visual and wider socio-economic concerns. This stems from my work at the University of Birmingham, England; University of Stirling, Scotland; and University of British Columbia, Canada.
“In the end, works of art are the only media of complete and unhindered communication (. . .) in a world full of gulfs and walls that limit community of experience.” John Dewey, Art as Experience.#
The collaboration between Roger Sugden and me takes inspiration from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities;* it focuses on the inferno and space in the inferno, freedom from constraints, and freedom to do.
